DESIGNED AROUND THE CAR: BMW X4 M COMPETITION F98 × FACEWHEELS FW-R03 21"
The BMW X4 M Competition F98 combines the elevated stance of an SUV with a fast rear roofline, wide M-specific bodywork and the sharper detailing of the Competition model.
For this build, FACEWHEELS FW-R03 custom forged wheels were specified in Gloss Black, with a 21 × 9.5J front / 21 × 10J rear fitment.
The objective was not to overwhelm the original design. It was to give the vehicle a clearer stance, stronger wheel-to-body proportion and a finish that feels intentional from every viewing angle.
BROOKLYN GREY METALLIC × GLOSS BLACK
The relationship between the Brooklyn Grey Metallic bodywork and the Gloss Black wheels establishes the visual direction of the complete build.
Brooklyn Grey Metallic gives the X4 M Competition a clean, technical foundation that changes from pale silver-grey in direct light to a deeper cool grey in shade. Gloss Black links the wheels with the kidney grilles, mirror caps and lower aero components, giving the body a sharper visual foundation.
Changes in daylight reveal different parts of the combination. Reflections trace the raised spoke edges, recessed areas remain darker and the Brooklyn Grey Metallic bodywork continues to frame the wheel without losing its own identity.
FACEWHEELS FW-R03 — SCULPTED FOR DEFINITION
The FACEWHEELS FW-R03 uses an aggressive split Y-spoke mesh structure that creates a strong sense of movement around the center.
That geometry gives the wheel a clear identity at a distance and more detail at close range. The design remains open enough to preserve depth around the brakes, while its transitions create a strong connection between the center and the outer rim.
Rather than acting as a separate decorative element, the wheel introduces structure beneath the body and gives the lower half of the vehicle a more deliberate technical character.
21 × 9.5J FRONT / 21 × 10J REAR — PROPORTION WITH PURPOSE
The 21 × 9.5J front and 21 × 10J rear setup adds a subtle stagger suited to the X4 M's broad rear proportions.
Diameter and width work together here. The wheel fills the arch with the correct visual scale, while the tire remains an active part of the composition instead of disappearing beneath an oversized rim.
The result is a fitment that looks considered from the side, front three-quarter and rear three-quarter views.
GLOSS BLACK REVEALS THE FORM
Gloss Black changes naturally as light moves across the wheel.
Direct light emphasizes edges and raised surfaces. In shade, the design becomes deeper and more unified. This variation allows the wheel to retain its dimensional character without relying on excessive decoration.
The finish also makes the design easier to read in motion, where the spoke pattern and the outer edge form a clear graphic relationship with the body above them.

A successful wheel package is defined by the complete relationship between diameter, width, spoke shape, brake clearance and the position of the wheel within the bodywork.
For this BMW X4 M Competition F98, the FACEWHEELS FW-R03 setup was selected to support the vehicle's existing proportions rather than replace them with a generic visual formula.
